Dear Colleague,

NETWORK RAIL – VEHICLE SPEED WARNING SYSTEM (VSWS)

Further to Head Office Circular NP/389/21, dated 19th October 2021, your National Executive Committee (NEC) met on 7th December 2021, to discuss a report received from its Health and Safety sub-committee, from when it met to discuss correspondence received from Network Rail relating to:
- request for an Avoidance of Dispute meeting
- report from the Lead Office relating to NWR intentions as regards in-Cab Safety System and continuing consultation.
At their meeting your NEC noted and adopted the following report from the Health and Safety sub-committee:
We note that an Avoidance of Dispute meeting is being arranged between RMT and the company on the speeding issue. The outcome of this meeting will be discussed between the Lead Officer, RMT Network Rail Lead Union Health and Safety Representatives and this NEC’s health and safety sub-committee on 15th December 2021. The General Secretary is instructed to seek a report from the Lead Officer once this meeting has taken place and place back before this NEC.

We note the correspondence from the Lead Officer regarding the In-Cab Safety System, confirming that internal cab cameras are not operational and that should the company wish to operate internal cameras then the matter would be brought under our collective bargaining process.

Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely
