ALL NETWORK RAIL MEMBERS

Dear Colleague,

NETWORK RAIL – ENERPAC STRESSING KIT

Further to Circular NP/208/24 dated 16th August 2024, having discussed matters again with some of my key representatives, I advised the company as follows:

RMT will require sight of a certificate or authority to work (AtW) card, issued by the training provider- i.e. either Network Rail or Enerpac- confirming that all who are using the kit are fully trained and competent.

I reiterated that the 3rd and 4th rails should not be used until the trial has been completed and the union has then engaged with the company on this matter.

If the above was acceptable, I agreed to arrange for amended advice to be issued to RMT members.

The company has now confirmed as follows:

I can confirm your email below is acceptable as follows:

•           The upskilling has been captured in Sentinel and as such will show on an individual’s Sentinel Card, the PIC should therefore be able to see the upskilling.

•           The Enerpac kit will only be used on trial sites in 3rd and 4th rail areas.

We are aware that the RMT circular recommending not to use the Enerpac light weight Stressing Equipment is still in place and this is preventing use on some sites. We would be glad if you could now reconsider especially given the benefits to the risk of manual handling of the lightweight equipment.

I have therefore notified Network Rail that RMT is now withdrawing our previous advice to members to not use this kit.

Please bring this circular to the urgent attention of all relevant members.

Yours sincerely,

Michael Lynch,

General Secretary
