Network Rail - Life Saving Rules

Our Ref: HSR/2/15 Head Office Circular: NP/134/14 18th July 2014

The Secretary ALL BRANCHES ALL REGIONAL COUNCILS

Dear Colleague

NETWORK RAIL – LIFE SAVING RULES

The company are seeking to make changes to the Life Saving Rules that bring them up to date and more accurately reflect the risks in the workplace. On giving consideration to an approach from the company and following a review of the Life Saving Rules and the fair culture processes with the involvement of our full time Lead Union Health and Safety Representatives the General Grades Committee have noted and adopted the following report of their Health and Safety Sub-committee:

We note the proposal on file from Network Rail and the changes to the Life Saving Rules which includes prohibiting the use of mobile phones and other mobile  devices. We believe this to be a positive step and instruct the General Secretary to write to the company accordingly.

Branches and Regional Councils be advised.

The revised Life Saving Rules will come into force on 31st July 2014. The most significant change is a new prohibition on using hands free phones while driving.

I am acting in accordance with these instructions and will keep you informed of developments with this case.

Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash Acting General Secretary
