To: The Secretary
ALL BRANCHES
REGIONAL COUNCILS

Dear Colleague,

NETWORK RAIL – SAFETY TASK FORCE PROGRAMME

Network Rail’s Safety Task Force Leader wrote to the Programme Board, including the RMT Lead Officer, on 8th March 2021.

It is clear that Network Rail is looking to accelerate the reduction of unassisted lookout working.

Considering this correspondence, your National Executive Committee noted and adopted the following resolution at its meeting on 9th March 2021:

That we note the correspondence from the company and that they have provided 6 bullet points that seek to improve track worker safety. However these points also look to reduce the use of unassisted lookouts. This will have an effect on our members’ rosters and potentially our Terms and Conditions.

Accordingly, the General Secretary is instructed to seek a meeting with Network Rail to discuss these proposals and to place all developments back before this NEC.

Members to be informed by text and email.

Relevant Branches, Regional Councils and Reps to be advised.

I am acting in accordance with these instructions and will keep members advised of any developments.

Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
