ALL BRANCHES
ALL REGIONAL COUNCILS

Dear Colleague

NETWORK RAIL - SENTINEL

Further to Head Office Circular NP/285/13, 17th October 2013 a meeting has been held between our representatives and the company. On giving consideration to a report of a meeting with the company concerning their proposals in this regard the General Grades Committee have noted and adopted the following report of their National Sub-committee:

That we note the positive report from the 29th October 2013 meeting between our representatives and the company. We remain committed to working towards a mutually agreeable, collaborative way forward on this matter. However, the following points/concerns need further clarification:

1.    Lone Working
What will be the make-up and constitution of the Lone Working Group?
Once established, the Lone Working Group should get full sight of the results of the current Lone Worker trial taking place on the LNW route. The trial ends on November 30th 2013 therefore the Lone Working Group needs establishing in good time.

2.    Communications
Julian Thomas will be our representative on the Sentinel Board Project

3.    Data and Rules
Assurances are needed on the use of data to confirm that it will not be used as a ‘clocking on and off’ tool and that the data will not be trawled for disciplinary purposes. We request that these assurances are written into the rules of the scheme.
Accordingly, the General Secretary is instructed to obtain a response to the above points/concerns and place the matter back before the General Grades Committee for further consideration.
Further, we note that there is already a separate file on lone working and that the lone working aspect of this file is now dealt with on the existing lone working file.
Branches and Regional Councils to be advised.

I am acting in accordance with these instructions and will keep you informed of developments with this case.

Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Bob Crow
General Secretary
