ALL BRANCHES
REGIONAL COUNCILS
Dear Colleague,
NIGHT WORKING SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY
Basingstoke No1 Branch submitted the following resolution:
This branch notes that Night working as defined by UK Government legislation as any 3 hours between the hours of 23:00 and 06:00 and being an average of no more than 8 hours over the night working period. Night working does have a detrimental impact on our members health and wellbeing. South Western Railway does not have a collective agreement with RMT over night working and does not reply with legislation as does not offer free health assessments for night workers; we call on the General Secretary to ensure SWR complies with the night working legislation and to seek a collective agreement with SWR that protects the health both physically and mentally of our members.
The resolution was considered by the NEC at their meeting of 22nd October 2019 where they noted and adopted the following report of their Health and Safety Sub-committee:
We note the resolution on file from our Basingstoke No.1 Branch. General Secretary is instructed to clarify with the Branch what grades and locations they refer to. A further report to placed back in front of this National Executive Committee.
Please make the contents of this circular available to all appropriate members.
Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
General Secretary
