Northern Trains – Class 331/195 Automatic Selective Door Opening

Our Ref: HSR/2/15
Head Office Circular: NP/278/19
2nd January 2019
To: The Secretary

Dear Colleague,

Northern Trains – Class 331/195 Automatic Selective Door Opening

Northern trains carried out a series of trials over the course of 5 days in October 2018, on 2 of those days the computer software failed. Further concerns were raised over the ability for doors to open when not accommodated at a platform and the opportunity to over-ride and open any local door. The National Executive Committee have noted and adopted the following report of their Health and Safety Sub-committee:

“That we note the report on file on the trial and the ASDO system which was found to be not fit for purpose from a safety perspective. We further note that more trials were due to take place and instruct the General Secretary to place an updated report before this NEC.

Branches and Regional Councils be advised.”

I am acting in accordance with these instructions Please make the contents of this circular available to all appropriate members.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
