Dear Colleague,

PROMOTING MARITIME HEALTH AND SAFETY – HEALTH AND SAFETY REPRESENTATIVES

We have been reviewing the ways in which we promote and organise our Health and Safety representatives throughout the maritime sectors. We know that our education services in Doncaster are proving to be extremely popular and are a vital link in providing our health and safety reps with a foundation to being a health and safety representative.

Members must be appointed by their own branch as a RMT health and safety rep, and associated nomination documentation must go to their regional office. This is how we inform the employer who our elected representative is and update the membership system that this activity is undertaken by the member, and it then allows us to produce the Identity card along with the welcome pack that includes an array of books and pamphlets along with your own RMT Health and Safety Representatives pin badge.

The welcome pack is extremely useful when a Health and Safety representative then attends Doncaster to commence or further their education.

I am asking all branch secretary’s to ensure this process is best adhered to, and also to make a check on the status of their health & safety ‘current H & S reps list’ with-in the branch and report any anomalies back through their own regional office. I thank you all for your continued hard work and loyalty to your trade union.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
