Dear Colleague

Protection of Workers from the Harmful Effects of Ballast Dust

The General Grades Committee have recently considered a research project submitted by an RMT Health and Safety Representative as part of his course of study towards the TUC Stage III Health and Safety Diploma. On examining the report the General Grades Committee have noted and adopted the following report of their Health and Safety Sub-committee:

We note the research report on file submitted by our lead safety rep for Network Rail High Output Bro. J. Pencott. Bro. J. Pencott has produced a well researched document setting out a plan for reducing the risk of exposure to harmful substances in the workplace. We congratulate him on his hard work. The General Secretary is instructed to adopt the five point plan as union policy and to raise it in all appropriate places where we have representation. We further instruct the General Secretary to ensure that all Lead Officers raise this at the appropriate safety committees where we have members exposed to harmful substances. The General Secretary is also instructed to nominate Bro. J. Pencott for the TUC Safety Rep of the year 2016 with our full endorsement.

Branches and Regional Councils be advised.

I am acting in accordance with these instructions and will keep you informed of any further developments. Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of all relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
