Dear Colleague
Provision of Stab Vests - Mobile Operations Managers Wessex - Area Network Rail
A resolution was received from the South Hants and Eastleigh Workshops Branch advising us that MOMs were being made to ride around with police officers as part of their role which led to a MOM being assaulted by an assailant who was attacking the police. In response the company proposed that staff carrying out these duties should be issued with stab vests.
The National Executive Committee have noted and adopted the following report of their Health and Safety Sub-committee:
That we note the views of the branch and the views of our reps on file. This NEC is of the view that the provision of stab proof vests would be entirely inappropriate for the role of a MOM. Our view is that our members should clearly separate their duties from those of the police and should not be placed or place themselves in situations where police type roles are adopted.
Branches and Regional Councils be advised.
I am acting in accordance with this instruction. Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.
Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
General Secretary
