Dear Colleague

RAIL FOR LONDON – HEALTH & SAFETY CONCERNS

Further to Head Office Circular NP/234/24, dated 2nd October 2024, an anonymous survey amongst our members to identify all your concerns about health and safety at work was sent to members. This survey included sections on whether you feel pressured into working unsafely and if you feel that you can refuse to work on the grounds of health and safety when appropriate.

The results of this survey have now been collated.

At its meeting on 21st November 2024 your NEC resolved as follows:

We note the findings of the survey of the health and safety concerns of our members employed by Rail for London.

The General Secretary is instructed to summarise these findings and raise them with the company, demanding that the company meets with the RMT lead officer at the earliest opportunity in order to seek resolution to our members’ concerns.

I am acting in line with these instructions.

I remind members of your rights under the company’s Work Safe Procedure and in legislation (Section 44 of the Employment Rights Act 1996). You should remove yourself to a place of safety if you feel you are in serious and imminent danger and not to work if you believe your safety is compromised. I refer you also to RMT’s booklet on Serious and Imminent Danger, which can be viewed at:

https://www.rmt.org.uk/news/publications/serious-and-imminent-danger-booklet/.

Please bring this circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch

General Secretary
