Rail Gourmet - Duty of Care Policy

Our ref: HSR

Head Office Circular NP/176/25

9th October 2025

To: ALL RAIL GOURMET (TPE CONTRACT) MEMBERS

Dear Colleague

RAIL GOURMET – DUTY OF CARE POLICY

I have been advised by your lead officer of the introduction of a new policy on duty of care for Rail Gourmet members involved in workplace accidents or incidents.

Following our successful dispute recently with Rail Gourmet where full collective bargaining on this contract was achieved as part of the dispute resolution, I can now report that this new policy has come from negotiations held with our elected Health and Safety reps through the now established bargaining machinery.

This is fundamental right we have never been afforded previously on this contract and highlights the progress being made since our members fought for the right to negotiate pay, conditions and health and safety through a full collective bargaining agreement.

Your National Executive Committee, at its meeting on 7th October 2025, noted and adopted the following report from its health and safety subcommittee:

We note the report on file from the lead officer.

The General Secretary is instructed to endorse the policy negotiated through the efforts of our health and safety reps. The general Secretary is further instructed to thank said reps for their efforts in reaching this position.

Branches and Regional Councils to be notified.

I am acting in line with these instructions. Please bring this circular to the attention of all relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Eddie Dempsey

General Secretary
