Dear Colleague,

RMT EVENT FOR INTERNATIONAL WORKERS’ MEMORIAL DAY

Every year on April 28th International Workers’ Memorial Day (IWMD) commemorates workers who are killed or injured at work. But the main aim of the day is to fight for the living.

In connection with this and for this year’s IWMD RMT event, Sarah Friday, RMT Health and Safety Officer, will host a one-hour meeting for RMT safety reps to talk about women’s occupational health and safety.

Unfortunately, women’s occupational health issues are often overlooked by employers. There is now more research around women’s occupational safety and health so there should be no excuse for employers saying they were not aware of these issues. Employers often refuse to acknowledge the combined impact housework and caring responsibilities (the majority of which is done by women) impacts on women’s work at the workplace and the physical differences between men and women.

Sarah has been involved in trade union health and safety for 25 years and is particularly interested in women’s occupational health and safety and has spoken at many trades union health and safety events on this subject.

Details of event:

Thursday 28th April, 1pm.

The meeting will take place on Zoom:
