Dear Colleague,

RSSB Research Project – T1155: Reviewing the Risks and Benefits of Detonator Use

Documentation was received from RSSB in relation to a research project on detonators and their use. Following attendance at a workshop by your representatives, your National Executive Committee have noted and adopted the following report of their Health and Safety Sub-committee;

“That we note the RSSB’s intention to conduct research on removing detonators as a form of secondary protection for track workers. This is of the view that the purpose of this research will be to justify the employers agenda on productivity and cost cutting rather than an over-riding concern for our members safety. The General Secretary is instructed to raise these principled concerns with the RSSB and to ensure that we are involved in monitoring this project and place reports before this NEC.
Branches and Regional Councils be advised.”

I am in the process of carrying out those instructions.
