I write further to Head Office Circular NP/367/21, dated 30th September 2021, to inform you that your National Executive Committee (NEC) met on 23rd September 2021 to consider a report from its Health and Safety sub-committee, from when it met to consider reports from Lead Officers and correspondence from RSSB relating to RSSB project T1188 which had shown that diesel level on board some trains was reaching “concerning levels”.

The report adopted by the NEC is as follows:

We note the reports from RMT Lead Officers and the correspondence from RSSB.

The General Secretary is instructed to write to RSSB to confirm that RMT Health and Safety Officer, Jonathan Havard, will engage with RSSB on how best to assess air quality standards on board trains.

The General Secretary is further instructed to write to TOCs to find out what work they have done to improve air quality on board trains following the publication of the RSSB report.
