REGIONAL COUNCILS

Dear Colleague,

RSSB – T1230 FATIGUE FRIENDLY ROSTERS

Further to Head Office Circular NP/185/21 dated 2nd June 2021, your National Executive Committee (NEC) met recently to consider a report from its Health and Safety Sub-committee, following their discussion relating to a letter received from RSSB in which they rejected my request to include RMT lay elected representatives in the steering group for this project.

At its meeting on 6th July, the NEC noted and adopted the following report of its Health and Safety Sub-committee:

We note the letter on file from RSSB.

The General Secretary is instructed to write to RSSB noting our disappointment that it has not agreed to RMT’s request that our elected lay reps attend the Project Steering Group meeting, adding that given the academic nature of the project, and its suggested alternative of reps’ engagement in the Steering Group, we will continue our involvement.

However, given that our reps will still have very limited involvement in the project - and that this is researching a subject area that is fundamental to the health, safety and welfare of our members - we reserve the right not to agree to the project findings when complete.

Branches and Regional Councils to be advised.

I am acting in accordance with this instruction and will keep you advised of developments.

Please bring the contents of this Circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
