Dear Colleague
SERVEST CLEANERS AT ST PHILIPS MARSH DEPOT, BRISTOL
Your National Executive Committee (NEC) met on 6 May 2021 to discuss the following resolution from RMT Bristol Branch:
Bristol branch demands better treatment for our Servest Cleaners employed on the GWR contract.
We have reports of bullying and harassment by management, of staff employed to filter litter from the trains at the St Philips Marsh depot in Bristol.
There is also concern about the physical conditions these workers must carry out their duties in which at Bristol has been lorry containers with windows but no connected services.
We demand that GWR provide information immediately to RMT on how these activities are being carried out at all depots.
The work sites on depot for contractors must be part of the GWR safety reps routine and legally required quarterly inspections and this must be confirmed.
We demand that an immediate joint inspection of such activities/work premises is carried out and any problems and concerns dealt with by a date agreed with RMT.
Failure by GWR and Servest to respond adequately to these matters should mean a dispute is declared with both employers.
In relation to this when your NEC met on 6th May they agreed the following:
That we note the resolution on file from our Bristol Branch and the contents thereof.
Accordingly, the General Secretary is instructed to seek a report from the Lead Officer on this matter.
Bristol Branch to be informed.
I am acting in accordance with these instructions and will keep you advised of developments.
Please bring the contents of this Circular to the attention of relevant members.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
