Dear Colleague,
STAFF ASSAULT AT BROMLEY SOUTH – SOUTHEASTERN RAILWAY
Further to Head Office Circular NP182/21, dated 1st June 2021 your National Executive Committee (NEC) met on 24th June to consider a report from its Southern Sub-committee. Following a report they received from the lead officer about a meeting with the British Transport Police and Revenue Protection Company Council representatives to discuss the staff assault at Bromley South station. At its meeting of 24th June, the NEC noted and adopted the following report of its RICF Sub committee:
We note the report on file from the lead officer and further note he has met with the British Transport Police along with our Company Council representatives from the revenue grades to discuss the horrific events at Bromley South station which saw two of our members becoming injured, one with multiple stab wounds.
We further note from the report that our affected members received a satisfactory chain of care from South Eastern and assurances have been gained that any member affected by this horrific assault requiring time off work shall be protected against being progressed under the company sickness absence scheme.
Further we note that a full review of the incident will be undertaken with the report to be placed back before the joint safety committee. Additionally, the Lead Officer has requested that no further revenue blocks should take place unsupervised without the support of a BTP officer in place until such time the review has taken place and the recommended safety measures have been adopted by the Joint Safety Committee.
Therefore, the General Secretary is instructed to place a report back before this NEC once the review is complete, and the results and recommendations have been received from South Eastern trains.
Relevant Branches and Regional Councils to be advised.
Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
