Dear Colleague

STAGECOACH SOUTH WEST – HEALTH SURVEY

RMT Representatives have met with the MD of Stagecoach SW recently, where they raised concerns with him about the contents and potential impact of the company’s Health Questionnaire for Shielded Staff Returning to Work.

The company proposals are unacceptable to RMT for a number of reasons, including:

• Lack of consultation: the survey certainly has not been consulted over with RMT either in the South West nor, RMT is led to believe, nationally.

• The information is being channelled through line managers (rather than Occupational Health or a third part risk assessor) meaning that there is no degree of independence and also confidentiality would very likely be compromised.

• In light of the current situation with loss of passenger numbers on public transport, it seems probable that a broader redundancy exercise may be pending. RMT is concerned that information gathered by the company on members’ health may be improperly taken into account in such a redundancy situation.

At its meeting on 12th August your National Executive Committee carried the following resolutions:

That we note the report and documents contained on file from our Lead Officer.

After further consultation with the reps it is apparent that the company have not engaged with the union in any form of consultation, especially that the reps have grave concerns that the questionnaire could be detrimental to our members in the future.

We therefore instruct the General Secretary write to the company in line with the report expressing our concerns and to demand that this questionnaire be withdrawn. Furthermore, to advise relevant member’s not to participate with the survey until fully consulted and agreeable with our representatives through the company machinery, and place all further developments before us.

Relevant members and Branches to be advised.

I am acting in accordance with these instructions and will keep members advised of any developments.

In the meantime, relevant members are advised not to participate with the survey until fully consulted and agreeable with our representatives through the company machinery.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
