Dear Colleague

TRANSPORT FOR WALES: RMT ADVICE TO MEMBERS FACE
COVERINGS/ MASKS/ VISORS

Following publication of RMT’s briefing paper on face coverings/masks/visors as per Head Office Circular NP/215/20, 4th September 2020, discussions in this regard have been taking place between our representatives and TfW. On giving consideration to a report of the Regional Organiser the National Executive Committee noted and adopted the following report of their Health and Safety Sub-committee:

We note the reports from the Regional Organiser. The General Secretary is instructed to write to TfW asking that FFP2/N95 respirators are available on request (and are properly risk assessed by the employer prior to procurement, and workers properly trained on how to fit them to their faces) for each individual who requests one. If this is not acceptable, RMT will advise members that we support them refusing to work on grounds of serious and imminent danger in the following ways:

With a refusal to sign off Risk Assessments
With a Refusal to stop at Short platforms
If FFP2/N95 respirators are not made available to them in work situations of less than 2 metre social distancing.

Any updates to be placed before this NEC.

Branches and Regional Councils to be advised.

I am acting in accordance with these instructions and will keep you advised of developments.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
