Dear Colleague,
TfW RL: PSYCHOMETRIC TESTING FOR SHUNTER/DRIVER GRADE
Your National Executive Committee (NEC) met on 30th May 2023 to consider a report from its Health and Safety Committee as regards correspondence received from the Lead Officer for Transport for Wales (TfW), in relation to the intention of TfW to reduce psychometric standards required to achieve Depot Driver/Shunter.
At its meeting, your NEC noted and adopted the following report from its Health and Safety sub-committee:
We note the report received from the Regional Organiser in relation to the intention of Transport for Wales to reduce the psychometric standards required to achieve Depot Driver/Shunter.
In connection with this the General Secretary is instructed to write to TfW to demand a risk assessment of their proposals, explaining that we oppose any change in relation to this matter which would weaken the TfW safety regime and increase risk.
Additionally, the General Secretary is instructed to contact ORR as regards this matter.
Any further correspondence to be placed back before this NEC.
Branches and Regional Councils to be informed accordingly. Relevant members to be notified by email and text.
I am acting in line with these instructions.
Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
