Dear Colleague,
THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON TRANSPORT WORKERS
The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), to which RMT is affiliated, has informed me that the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is asking for our support with an international study on the impact of Covid-19. They have chosen transport as one of only six sectors they want to investigate, in recognition of the essential role that our members have played throughout the pandemic.
The survey gives the opportunity to capture the reality of the different transport sectors in times of crisis and will help us build the strong evidence to support campaigning on behalf of transport workers.
The outcomes of the study aim to influence decision-making in future crises and will be important for ongoing work with the World Health Organisation (WHO), other UN agencies and global employers, including the ITF’s leverage in the Joint Action Group to review the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the world’s transport workers and the global supply chain (JAG-TSC).
You can access the survey here until Sunday, 7th May 2023.
The more voices of transport workers we record, the stronger the evidence will be to help us increase preparedness for future health crises.
Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
