Dear Colleague

TRANSPENNINE EXPRESS (TPE): ON-BOARD REVENUE DUTIES DURING COVID-19

Your Regional Organiser provided me with the method to work statement for re-introduction of revenue duties at TPE. He also provided me with the Risk Assessment, which the safety reps agreed, as it gives the conductors the right to not go in the train for revenue if they deem it unsafe. The Conductors Company Council (CCC) were still in discussions on this matter, but the company have gone ahead and reintroduced on-board revenue duties without agreement of the CCC; however, I have been advised that most members are refusing to undertake such duties.

Your NEC noted and adopted the following report of its Health and Safety Sub Committee at its meeting on 18th August 2020:

We note the Regional Organiser’s report in regard to TPE going ahead and reintroducing on board revenue without agreement of the Conductors’ Company Council (CCC). The General Secretary is instructed to write to the company demanding that it awaits the decision of the CCC and rescinds the reintroduction of on board revenue until such a time as agreement is reached. The General Secretary is further instructed to remind the company of RMT’s position in respect of the provision of correct PPE. Any further reports to be placed in front of this NEC.

Branches and Regional Councils to be advised.

TPE members to be advised via email.

I am acting in accordance with these instructions and will keep you informed of developments.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
