TRANSPORT FOR WALES – THE FITTING OF DEFIBRILLATORS/AEDs ON ALL NEW ROLLING STOCK

 

I write to inform you that your National Executive Committee (NEC) met on 23^rd December 2021 to consider a report from its Health and Safety sub-committee, from when it met to consider a resolution received from Cardiff Rail Branch. 

 

The report adopted by the NEC is as follows:

 

We note the resolution on file from Cardiff Rail Branch.

 

We note that defibrillators can be purchased at considerably less cost than quoted in the resolution, and that LNER has installed them across its legacy fleet as well as on its new rolling stock of Azumas, further that Southern, Great Northern and Thameslink have installed AEDs at all their stations.

 

The General Secretary is instructed to carry out the requests in the resolution, namely to request that Transport for Wales install defibrillators on all new rolling stock (CAF class 197, Stadler (class 231, 756) and Transport for Wales to train all Guards/Conductors on the use of defibrillators/ Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).

 

The General Secretary is further instructed to write to the Welsh Health and Transport Ministers to encourage support for these initiatives.

 

Branches and Regional Councils to be informed.
