Dear Colleague

Untrained Staff Carrying Out Safety Duties

There have been reports of non-railway staff being employed at Merseyrail with security guards undertaking customer service roles with no railway experience or training in safety which are requirements of the post. Following discussion at the National Health and Safety Advisory Conference the matter was referred to the AGM. The National Executive Committee have noted and adopted the following report of their Health and Safety Sub-committee:

That we note the contents of the resolution which highlights the use of security guards on Merseyrail.

The G.S. is instructed to place this matter on the next agenda of the appropriate Merseyrail forum.

Branches and Regional Councils be advised.

I am acting in accordance with this instruction. Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
