Dear Colleague,

VIOLENCE AT WORK

The unprecedented number of violent attacks and assaults at work is a very serious concern for our members working across the transport industry, non more so that our colleagues working across the London Underground. Following a resolution from your East Ham branch where in the space of 3 days members across the LUL network had seen a shooting, 2 stabbings and a knife attack.

Your National Executive Committee has agreed the following;

“That we note the resolution on file from our East Ham Branch regarding the unprecedented levels of violence and abuse our members are being subjected to which are evident in the alarming statistics presented widely in the media. We instruct the General Secretary to urgently write to the London Mayor and London Underground to seek assurances that measures will be promptly put in place to adequately protect the safety of our members and the travelling public, failing which a dispute will exist and will be prosecuted by this union with the company. Further we instruct the General Secretary to arrange a meeting of East Ham Branch Stations H & S reps, Branch Officers, Stations Safety Council Reps, Senior Assistant General Secretary, the Lead Officer (if available) and members of the NEC in attendance. Members to be advised by email and text. East Ham Branch and the London Transport Regional Council to be advised”.

I am acting in accordance with these instructions.

 Yours sincerely
