Dear Colleague,

WORKING AT HEIGHT

Further to Circular NP/40/21, dated 27th January 2021, I have received correspondence from Network Rail regarding Working at Height Working Groups, RMT is of the view that this does not take us any further forward. We have put a very simple request forward to reinvigorate working groups, per department - S&T, OHL, Off Track, etc. It appears that none of the working groups have come to completion and the company has just pushed ahead with standards.

The company is suggesting that it basically holds high level meetings and does not get into the details of how people actually work on the ground; this approach has been previously rejected by RMT.

Your National Executive Committee, at its meeting on 25th May, noted and adopted the following report from its Health and Safety Sub-committee:

The General Secretary is instructed to write to the company rejecting its approach and reiterating RMT’s position of reinvigorating working groups, per department as per the Lead Officer’s report. Consideration of the national standard can be included in the individual departmental working groups.

Branches and Regional Councils to be advised.

I am acting in accordance with these instructions. Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
