Dear Colleague

WORKING HOURS LIMITS AND FATIGUE

AGM Item 55 called on the union to start a campaign to reduce working hours across the transport industry to protect workers from the harmful effects of fatigue. The resolution also committed the union to campaign for a maximum 32 hour working week without loss of pay.

The National Executive Committee have noted and adopted the following report of their Health and Safety Sub-committee:

We note the resolution from the AGM and instruct the General Secretary to take up the demands of the resolution through the bargaining machinery. However, we further note that fatigue is a particular issue for our shipping and off-shore grades members and the General Secretary is further instructed to develop a separate campaign for these members.

Branches and Regional Councils be advised.

I am acting in accordance with this instruction. Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
