Dear Colleague

YELLOW FRONT ENDS ON TRAINS

The National Executive Committee have considered correspondence from TransPennine Express regarding their proposal to not make their trains visible to track workers or level crossing users by no longer having yellow front ends on their new rolling stock. The union has already raised our concerns with these proposals with the company, Network Rail, ORR and to our sister unions TSSA and ASLEF.

The National Executive Committee have noted and adopted the following report of their Health and Safety Sub-committee:

We note the responses on file from ORR and ASLEF, further we note the response from Network Rail and instruct the General Secretary to write again to all parties seeking involvement in the ‘shared risk’ work being carried out by Network Rail. As this is ‘shared risk’ we believe that this programme should be run by the ORR and this point should be made to the whole industry.

Branches and Regional Councils be advised.

I am acting in accordance with this instruction. Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
