Mental Health

On this page you will find various links and documents for you to get support and advice on a range of mental health issues.

RMT cannot offer medical help or counselling. However, we can help sort out problems connected with work that can trigger members’ stress, anxiety and depression. For more information on this please see this RMT advice: Mental health – a trade union issue

TUC Mental Health Workplace

This TUC guide ‘Mental health and the workplace’ is an educational workbook which explains that mental health is important in trade union activity/functions and that workplace union reps have a role to play in raising awareness on mental health as a workplace issue, as well as supporting members with mental health problems in the workplace and signposting members to further sources of support and guidance. In addition to this being an information resource the guide is intended to be used at branch meetings and in informal discussions with members so that there exists a commitment to challenge mental health discrimination and promote equality.

This is just like conventional face-to-face therapy, but it’s delivered online via webcam, audio or instant messaging.

Thanks to funding from the Seafarers Hospital Society, free support is available to all working and retired Merchant Navy seafarers and fishers of any nationality who are based in the UK, and their families.
