RETIRED MEMBERS & LEGAL BENEFITS

To All Branches, Regional Offices & Regional Councils

Circular No: Legal/02/25

26th February 2025

Dear Colleagues,

LEGAL CIRCULAR - RETIRED MEMBERS & LEGAL BENEFITS

Following a resolution from the National Retired Activists’ Advisory Conference and subsequent discussions with the Retired Activists’ Liaison Committee and National Executive Committee Thompsons Solicitors (England and Wales) have now confirmed the range of benefits that our retired members can enjoy.

Thompsons Solicitors (England and Wales) have extended the provision of Personal Injury Claims assistance to retired members but with the caveat that it excludes all ‘small’ claims and also applies only to retired members who remain members of RMT and cover non work accidents or injuries sustained whilst doing voluntary work.

To remain a member of the RMT following retirement and be eligible for these benefits, it will require members to submit an application for RMT’s retirement benefit and become an “Honorary” member under the provision of Rule 2, Clause 1(e).

The service offered by Thompsons Solicitors (England and Wales) also extends to an On-Line Will Service and preferential terms for Conveyancing, Probate and Powers of Attorney.

Please refer to the attached web-link detailing the above: https://rmtunion.org/4ieVoSm

I would be grateful if you could bring this circular to the attention of your members.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch

General Secretary
