To All Branches, Regional Offices & Regional Councils
5th April 2024 Dear Colleagues
LEGAL CIRCULAR Working Visa Requirements – changes effective 2024
A number of important changes to working visa requirements will come into force in 2024.
Key measures that the Government is taking are:
-
Stopping overseas care workers from bringing family dependants and requiring social care firms in England to be undertaking Care Quality Commission registered activities to sponsor visas, which came into force on 11 March 2024.
-
Increasing the earning threshold for overseas workers by nearly 50% from its current position of £26,200 to £38,700 from 4 April 2024.
-
Reforming the Shortage Occupation List into an Immigration Salary List.
-
Raising the minimum income for family visas to £38,700 in line with the minimum salary threshold for the Skilled Worker route and will apply to all British and settled sponsors under the five-year partner route. The Government will raise the minimum income for family visas incrementally in stages, starting at £29,000 from 11 April and rising to £38,700 by early 2025.
You will need to apply to update your Skilled Worker or Tier 2 (General) work visa if:
