Hull Trains Section of the Railways Pension Scheme RPS

My Ref: MRP 1/8/9

2nd July 2021

Circular Num: NP/233/2021

To: The Secretary All Branches & Regional Councils

Dear Colleagues,

HULL TRAINS SECTION OF THE RAILWAYS PENSION SCHEME (RPS)

I refer to my previous Circular, NP/219/21, 22nd June 2021, I can advise that our Lead Officer and representatives met with the company on 1st July 2021 to discuss with management their decision to close the Hull Trains section of the RPS.

At this meeting it became clear that management were not prepared to backdown on their proposal but were prepared to continue discussions through mediation service ACAS if the RMT were prepared to suspend the current overtime ban and the forthcoming strike action.

Our Lead Officer has reports that our representatives at Hull Train in consideration have noted that management have committed to enter meaningful talks through ACAS and with this in mind are strongly recommending that we suspend the current industrial action and enter these talks to find a resolution to this issue.

Further our Lead Officer has requested that a face to face meeting is arranged with all our members at Hull Trains within the next two weeks with himself, the Senior Assistant General Secretary and members of the NEC in attendance.

In response to the Lead Officer report, the following actions have been taken:

Suspend industrial action up until Monday 12th of July to allow talks with ACAS to take place.

Inform all members with an urgent circular of the latest position.

Arrange a face to face meeting with all Hull trains members, with lead officer, SAGS in attendance within the next two weeks.

I would therefore advise members:

That the current overtime ban, rest day working ban and scheduled strike action due to take place on Sunday 4th July 2021 and Sunday 11th July 2021 is suspended immediately.

The overtime ban and rest day working ban will restart from 00.01 hours on Monday 12th July 2021 and the first strike followed by the first strike on Sunday 18th July 2021.

Therefore, our members at Hull Trains are instructed not book on for any shifts that commence between:

• 0001 Hours and 2359 Hours on Sunday 18th July 2021
• 0001 Hours and 2359 Hours on Sunday 25th July 2021
• 0001 Hours and 2359 Hours on Sunday 1st August 2021
• 0001 Hours and 2359 Hours on Sunday 8th August 2021
• 0001 Hours and 2359 Hours on Sunday 15th August 2021
• 0001 Hours and 2359 Hours on Sunday 22nd August 2021
• 0001 Hours and 2359 Hours on Sunday 29th August 2021

Please Note: The below industrial action short of a strike, as advised in my previous correspondence, is suspended during the strike action dates above, but will commence again immediately at 0001 hours on the Monday, following the Sunday after strike action, and end again at 23.59 on each Saturday, on the eve of the Sunday action.

The RMT remains fully committed in defending our members rights to a decent pension in retirement and will do everything in its power to protect our members final salary pension rights.

I will keep you fully advised on any further developments.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
