Rights and Dignity in Retirement

Dear Colleagues,

RIGHTS AND DIGNITY IN RETIREMENT

I write to inform you that the following resolution was carried at the 2012 National Retired Members Advisory Conference:

“This Retired Members Advisory Conference declares wholehearted support for workers; whether they are public or private sector workers in their struggle for a decent pension when they retire. We further support the campaign by pensioner’s organisations for ‘Rights and Dignity in Retirement’, the main demands being:

i. A Decent State Pension

ii. Proper Care

iii. The Ending of Fuel Poverty

This Conservative – Liberal Democrat Government has no mandate for attacking either state or occupational pensions using the excuse that we are living longer; and non-affordability. This is one of the richest countries in the world, with the rich getting richer and the poorer getting poorer.

We urge our union to continue to support the campaigns on state and occupational pensions.”

This resolution was noted and adopted by the RMT Council of Executives on 29th August 2012.

Yours sincerely,

R. Crow

General Secretary
