12 May National Demonstration: A New Deal for Transport Workers

Thursday 25th January 2018

Circular No. National Policy NP/17/18/BO

To the Secretary’s all Branches and Regional Council’s

Dear Colleagues,

12 MAY NATIONAL DEMONSTRATION: A NEW DEAL FOR TRANSPORT WORKERS

The Carillion crisis brings into sharp focus how this bankrupt Government is obsessed with outsourcing essential public works to high risk, private profit seeking firms. Whether in health, education, housing or transport the Tories are responsible for the many crisis’s happening which are wholly of their making.

That is why we all need a new deal both as workers and as citizens.

Saturday the 12th May in London will be the moment to take to the streets and demand this government goes now. People are fed up with the Tories and all their President Club mates who have showed everyone their true colours. We are all fed up with cuts, austerity and privatised greed and a Labour government with a programme dedicated to the many and not the few is now waiting in the wings.

RMT will be marching from Victoria Embankment at 12.00 noon to Hyde Park and attendance is a legitimate use of branch expenditure.

We need to use this opportunity to get the RMT message out on the media and to the public. We will have a stall in Hyde Park to hand out information about all RMT campaigns.

Let us all do everything we can now to build this demonstration. Please contact Bob Oram on b.oram@rmt.org.uk if you are willing to be a steward on the day and with details of how many members are likely to be in attendance. More details will be sent to branches shortly.

Please encourage friends and family to join us. Let’s send a clear message to this Government that we want a fairer, more prosperous country and a new deal for transport committed to public ownership, more jobs and better workers' rights.

Thanking you all, in anticipation

Yours sincerely,

Mick Cash
General Secretary
