1913 Lockout Centenary – Commemoration foodship sailing from Liverpool

Head Office Circular No. NP/237/13/MC

To the Secretary all Branches,
Council of Executive members,
Regional Councils and Regional Offices.

Thursday 12th September 2013

Dear Colleagues,

1913 Lockout Centenary – Commemoration foodship sailing from Liverpool

To commemorate the foodship sent by British trade unionists to alleviate the suffering of Dublin’s workers and their families during the lockout of 1913, a replica vessel will sail from Liverpool on October 4th at 12.00.

RMT, whose predecessor unions the National Union of Seamen and the National Union of Railwaymen were both involved with the original sailing, is supporting the commemoration and encouraging members to attend, with flags, banners, friends and family.

Final planning is underway but those interested in attending the port for a rally and to see the vessel depart should contact m.carty@rmt.org.uk who will provide further information as it becomes available.

Yours sincerely

Bob Crow
General Secretary
