2 March 2020 - Keep Northern Public Day of Action

Circular No. NP/025/20

To the Secretary all Branches and Regional Councils.

6 February 2020

Dear Colleagues,

2nd MARCH 2020 – KEEP NORTHERN PUBLIC DAY OF ACTION

On the 1st March 2020 the operation of all Northern services will be renationalised from Arriva Rail North to publicly owned Northern Trains Ltd.

Recently the National Executive Committee considered the following resolution from Blackpool and Fylde Coast Branch which reads

“This branch believes that we should be campaigning on 2nd March regarding nationalisation of Northern Rail. The issues as regards to short staffing, guards on trains and staff our stations would be at the forefront of these demos.”

The NEC responded with the following resolution:

“This NEC agrees that we should be highlighting the change of franchise and therefore instructs the General Secretary to provide propaganda to branches and activists relating to our various ongoing campaigns on the franchise and the renationalisation of the franchise, and furthermore, to encourage branches to hold campaign events on the 2nd March 2020 and to issue a press release highlighting the change in franchise”

Details and locations are still to be confirmed but we are expecting to hold events at mainline train stations across the Northern Regions and we call on as many Northern branches as possible to fix this momentous date in your diaries and turn out for these campaign events to send a clear message to the Government ’Keep Northern Public!’

Please advise Martin Abrams in the National Policy Department of locations and times of planned events on m.abrams@rmt.org.uk or tel: 0207 529 8309.

Yours sincerely,

Mick Cash
General Secretary
