2nd March 2020 – Update - Keep Northern Public day of action and campaign launch

Circular No. NP/039/20

To the Secretary all Branches and Regional Councils.

27 February 2020

Dear Colleagues,

2nd MARCH 2020 – UPDATE - KEEP NORTHERN PUBLIC DAY OF ACTION AND CAMPAIGN LAUNCH

Thank you to the branches that have responded and confirmed events at stations. As you are aware, on the 1st March 2020 the operation of all Northern services will be renationalised from Arriva Rail North to publicly owned Northern Trains Ltd.

On Monday 2nd March 2020 we are launching our “Keep Northern Public” campaign and planning a day of action with events at stations to mark this momentous day and send a clear message to the Government to keep Northern public and not return the bad old days of privatised railways across the North of England in the coming months or years.

Stations with confirmed actions include:

Carlisle
Carlisle station
6:30am to 8:45am

Leeds
Leeds station
7:00am to 10:00am

Manchester
Manchester Victoria Station
7:00am to 9:00am

Newcastle
Newcastle Central station (Neville Street front entrance)
7:30am to 9:00am

Sheffield
Sheffield Central station
4:00pm to 6:00pm

Wakefield
Wakefield Westgate station
7:30am-9:00am

Wigan
Wigan station
7:00am to 9:00am

York
York station
7:00am to 9:00am

We have also had an Early Day Motion (Number 172) tabled on ‘Northern Rail public ownership’ and have created a ‘Keep Northern Public’ petition. Please do take the time to sign the petition and contact your MPs to sign the Early Day Motion. When using social media please use the hashtag #KeepNorthernPublic

Propaganda including Keep Northern Public postcards, stickers and placards have been prepared and I call upon as many Northern branches as possible to support this campaign.

Please contact Martin Abrams in the National Policy Department if you have any questions on m.abrams@rmt.org.uk or tel: 0207 529 8309 / 07765577689

Yours sincerely,

Mick Cash
