Actions against P&O – Cairnryan and Larne, Friday 29th April

Circular No.NP/109/22

To all Branches and Regional Councils

27th April 2022

Dear Colleagues

Actions against P&O – Cairnryan and Larne, Friday 29th April

I am writing to strongly encourage members to attend and support the RMT’s two actions against P&O Ferries in Larne and Cairnryan on Friday 29th April. P&O own both of these ports, as well as operating a dangerously degraded, anti-trade union ro-ro ferry service. The details for these actions are:

Cairnryan – Blockade: Loch Ryan Port, Cairnryan, Stranraer DG9 8RG. A coach will be leaving RMT Scottish Regional Office, 180 Hope Street, Glasgow G2 2UE at Midday sharp on 29th April.Seats are still available on the coach. Book your seats by emailing: l.dobbin@rmt.org.uk

Larne – Protest: Larne Harbour Ltd (port entrance) 9 Olderfleet Road, Larne Northern Ireland, BT40 1AS. From 2pm.

Yesterday, the European Causeway drifted for hours in waters off Larne having lost power. It was carrying passengers and freight traffic and operated by underpaid, over worked and poorly trained agency crew. The Union’s actions on Friday aim to cause maximum disruption to P&O who cannot be allowed to get away with their illegal actions.

We are calling on the trade union movement and the public to join the blockade in Cairnryan or the protest in Larne to support local seafarer jobs and maritime safety. Your participation in these actions is strongly encouraged and greatly appreciated.

I would be grateful if you could bring the content of this circular to the attention of all members in your Branch and you will be kept updated with further developments.

Yours sincerely

Mick Lynch
