Assault on RMT members by supporters of Tommy Robinson
Further to my circular of 17th July 2018 this matter was further considered by your NEC who made the following decision,

“That we condemn this attack which is also an attack on the wider trade union movement. We welcome the messages of solidarity we have received from the Labour and Trade Union Movement. We note that full support is being provided to our affected members and that the General Secretary has raised our concerns with both the Mayor of London and the Metropolitan Police. In light of the attack we also examine with like minded organisations how best to steward our, and other trade union participation in future events and we also advise our members to be vigilant and report any concerns they may have to both Head Office and the Police.

“We will redouble our efforts to defeat the threat of the far right and will work with the TUC, TUCG and like minded unions and organisations to ensure there is a strong trade union based response to this threat.”

I am implementing the terms of the decision and will keep members advised of developments.
