Black Lives Matter Against Police Brutality and Racism

18th September 2020
My ref: EO/5
Circular No. NP/228/20

TO: THE SECRETARY
ALL BRANCHES AND REGIONAL COUNCILS

Dear Colleague,

BLACK LIVES MATTER: AGAINST POLICE BRUTALITY AND RACISM

Following a resolution from the Black and Ethnic Minority Members’ Advisory Committee, the NEC have agreed to make a statement to promote the black lives matter campaign and in solidarity with protests against police brutality and racism.

In the aftermath of George Floyd’s death, and in support of #blacklivesmatter (#BLM)
a joint statement was produced by myself, the President and the Chair of our Black and Ethnic Minority Members’ Advisory Committee, Glen Hart, https://www.rmt.org.uk/about/black-and-ethnic-minorities-members/

By way of continuing the union’s support for the campaign, I write to advise Branches and Regional Councils that they may use Branch Management Funds as appropriate to support BLM events and also take appropriate practical measures to support organised and safe participation by our members, their families and supporters in these events.

Please do circulate this as widely as possible.

Yours sincerely,

Mick Cash
General Secretary
