BLACK HISTORY MONTH – CELEBRATING OUR BLACK ICONS:
THURSDAY 7 OCTOBER 2021, 7PM

To mark black history month, our Black and Ethnic Minority Members’ Advisory Committee have organised an event to celebrate Claudia Jones (founder of Notting Hill Carnival) and Shapurji Saklatvala (“Comrade Sak” Britain’s first black MP). There will be an impressive array of speakers:
Winston Pinder – who welcomed Claudia Jones to Britain in 1955
David Horsley - author of “The Political Life and Times of Claudia Jones”
Angela Cobbinah – journalist and author
Dr Clair Holder – barrister and past Chief Executive of Notting Hill Carnival Mark Wadsworth – author of “Comrade Sak”
Dr Mike Squires – historian

The event will be held on Thursday 7th October 2021, at the Indian YMCA, 41 Fitzroy Square, London W1T 6AQ. The presentations will start at 7pm with an optional curry meal beforehand at 6pm which must be booked. Please register here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/SYBTPTJ
