CLAIM THE DATE WEDNESDAY 15 AUGUST 2018
“CUT FARES, NOT STAFF” CAMPAIGNING DAY OF ACTION

This is to confirm that RMT will be campaigning at stations on Wednesday 15 August this year’s date on which the new rail fares for 2019 will be announced.

We will be using the day to highlight that while train companies make big profits on the back of fare rises, members working in the sector are facing unprecedented attacks from employers – ranging from cuts to infrastructure work, the spread of driver only operation, ticket office closures and de-staffing of stations.

We will use the day to press our case for public ownership and a unified network run in the interest of everyone as opposed to the current failing franchised system under which privateer’s profit from big fares rises and by cutting members’ jobs essential for safety, security, accessibility and information.
Further details will be circulated and the purpose of this circular is simply to enable branches to start organising and planning to help with the distribution of leaflets to passengers either at your local station or a station nearby with other branches.
We want to make August 15th a significant event across the whole country in support of our campaigns.
