Dear colleagues,

Cleaners are Essential –‘Safe Travel is Clean Travel – Take Cleaning In-House’ Protest – 12pm, 20 July, opposite Old Palace Yard, Houses of Parliament SW1A 2BE

A reminder that RMT has called a protest outside Parliament on 20th July as part of our campaign to end the privatisation of cleaning. Please circulate this among your members and support the protest.

Although this will take place after restrictions are planned to be lifted, we must for the time being, plan under the current restrictions. Therefore, if you have Covid-19 symptoms of have recently been in touch with somebody with Covid-19, please do not attend. If you are in a vulnerable category, whether through age, medical conditions or as a consequence of a disability, also please do not attend. We are planning for the demonstration to be socially distanced in accordance with current regulations.

The Rail Industry Recovery Group and TfL are conducting reviews of their outsourced cleaning. This gives us an opportunity to win real, lasting changes and build the case for insourcing cleaning. But we can’t leave it to the industry to put its own house in order. We have to win this by building public and political pressure, taking our arguments and our numbers out to the public and to the political establishment. That means MPs must hear our voices.

This protest will be a key part of that work. I urge you to come and support your cleaning grade colleagues on 20th July. They need our solidarity and support.

Yours sincerely,

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
