Circular No: NP/001/19
TO ALL BRANCHES AND REGIONAL COUNCILS.
Our ref: S1/2 S8/1
4th January 2019
Dear Colleagues
SOS 2020 demo against Condor Ferries, Portsmouth, 12th January
Further to circular no. NP/0263/18 of 10th December 2018, following the successful action against Condor Ferries last month, your union is maintaining the pressure on the company and local politicians by holding another demonstration in Portsmouth on:
Saturday 12th January 2019, at 7am – 9am, Portsmouth International Port, George Byng Way, Portsmouth PO2 8SP
I applaud the members and activists who turned out in December to drive the RMT’s anti-Condor, pro-seafarer message home and you are strongly encouraged to attend the next demonstration in order to maintain this momentum. Condor Ferries pay Ratings below the National Minimum Wage, do not provide a pension scheme and do not recognise trade unions whilst their current owners, Macquarie Investment bank of Australia rake in rising profits and dividends.
We will again target the morning sailings, including Condor’s freight ships, to remind the public and hauliers of Condor’s disgraceful employment practices. Another good turnout from RMT members and activists is essential to keep the pressure up on Condor through the SOS 2020 campaign.
SOS 2020 campaign paraphernalia is still available at the Wessex and other Regional Offices and travel costs to attend the Condor Ferries demonstrations are a legitimate form of Branch expenditure.
I would be grateful if you could bring the contents of this circular to the attention of members in your branch and you will be kept updated with all further developments.
Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
General Secretary
