“Cut Fares, Not Staff” Campaigning Day of Action - Tuesday 15 August

To: All Branches, Regional Councils and Regional Organisers

11 July 2017
Circular No. NP/107/17
P11

Dear Colleagues

“CUT FARES, NOT STAFF” CAMPAIGNING DAY OF ACTION  - TUESDAY 15 AUGUST

LOCAL LEAFLETING AT TRAIN STATIONS –
PLEASE RESPOND IF YOU CAN HELP

RMT will be campaigning through the leafleting of passengers on Tuesday 15 August. This is the date on which the new rail fares for 2018 will be announced and for which we are expecting significant media interest.

We will be using the day to highlight that while train companies make big profits on the back of fare rises, members working in the sector are facing unprecedented attacks from employers – ranging from cuts to infrastructure work, the spread of driver only operation, ticket office closures and de-staffing of stations.

We will also press our case for public ownership and to contrast our vision for a network run in the interest of everyone, with the current system under which privateers profit from big fares rises and by threatening members’ jobs.

You are requested to respond to this email if your branch can assist on 15 August in the distribution of leaflets to passengers. If your branch can take part, please complete the attached form and return by replying to this email or by post to RMT Policy Dept, 39 Chalton Street, London, NW1 1JD.

CUT FARES, NOT STAFF

Yours sincerely,
