Dear Colleagues,

 

Durham Miners Gala 2018

 

Durham is one of the most popular historic events in our movement’s calendar. Last year it was estimated that 200,000 people, young and old, experienced the unique atmosphere of music, politics and community spirit and the Durham Miners Association have every expectation that more will be there this year.

 

The crowds around the platform were so large that the PA system, although improved, was inadequate to reach everyone. This year they are making an appeal for help to raise an extra £15,000 to hire the type of system used at music festivals, with a large screen, so everyone will be able to see the speakers and hear what they have to say.

 

RMT is a Friend of Durham Miners Gala and we would encourage branches and individuals to help secure the future of this important and historic event by joining the growing band of Marras* by donating to this year’s appeal. Ways to donate are listed below.

 

Ways you can donate:

1. Fill in the form below and send it with your cheque to: Freepost, RTKC-EALS-HJKK, Durham Miners’ Association, Miners’ Hall, Flass Street, DURHAM DH1 4BE. No stamp is needed on the envelope.

2. Visit the Friends website at: www.friendsofdurhamminersgala.org

and make a one-off donation or set up a regular donation by direct debit.

Donations from organisations will be acknowledged with a certificate. Individuals who donate will receive a Marras Card.

All moneys donated will be used to cover the logistic costs of running and developing the Gala.

All donors, donating over £24 (or over £2.00 per month by direct debit), will receive a copy of the 98 page full colour Gala Souvenir Brochure as soon as it is published in July 2018.

 

The 134th Durham Miners’ Gala will be held on Saturday 14th July 2018. Please support the appeal and also make sure you get along and experience the unique atmosphere of the day with its tremendous community spirit, politics and music.
