Dear Colleague,

 

FAR-RIGHT VIOLENCE

 

In light of recent events with shocking acts of racist mob violence carried out by far-right thugs, it is important that we as trade unionists do all we can to support the communities that have been impacted. 

 

In this respect I can advise you that prior to the weekend, your union attended an urgent TUC meeting to discuss our response as trade unions to the proposed far-right demonstrations and where information was available publicised counter demonstrations.

 

Your union is also fully aware of the risk these thugs pose to our members if they are travelling in mobs with the primary purpose of causing disturbance and with this in mind, I sent a safety-first message to all TOC members reminding them that they could remove themselves from situations of danger under the Work Safe Procedure (see here: https://bit.ly/3YzuKwG). 

 

Your union utterly condemns these far-right racist mobs and their vile politics which are contrary to our trade union values of equality, peace and solidarity.  

 

In the days ahead your union will be working with the TUC and campaigning organisations to support the call for a community and trade union led response to these appalling far-right racist demonstrations and I shall keep you advised of developments.
