Friend of Durham Miners Gala Affiliation

The Durham Miners Gala is a key event in the Trade Union calendar, and the RMT is a longstanding supporter of the event.

2021 marks the 150th anniversary of the Gala. For the second year running the Gala will not be taking place, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Next year’s Gala will take place on Saturday 9 July 2022, and will be dedicated to all the frontline workers who have risked their lives to keep society functioning throughout the pandemic. The organisers want to make 2022’s gala one of the greatest yet, and to use it to demand better pay and conditions for workers.

The Union nationally affiliates to Friends of Durham Miners Gala, as do many branches, regions and individual members. Friends of Durham Miners Gala has produced a booklet, available here - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wlr-wEQJ28i0ML7QT78dIf9oGoY5QJ7c/view which sets out the history of the Gala and seeking affiliation from union branches and members. Details of how to affiliate are contained within the booklet.

Please circulate the booklet amongst members in your branch and region. RMT Branches and Regional Councils are encouraged to affiliate to Friends of Durham Miners Gala and to help support this vital trade union event.
