Dear Colleagues

Future Employment and Training of UK Seafarer Ratings

I write to alert you to the launch of an RMT commissioned report into the training and job opportunities that other countries offer their seafarer ratings. The report was written by maritime academic Dr Helen Sampson of Cardiff University and provides the union with a useful list of policy options which could form the basis of a ‘Maritime Manifesto’, ahead of the General Election, for reviving the number of UK ratings working in the industry.

The RMT Parliamentary Group has booked a room in Westminster and the details of the launch event are:

Wednesday 28th January 2015, 4-6pm, Strangers Dining Room, House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA

The venue has a maximum capacity of 100 (standing) and attendance will be treated as a legitimate use of Branch funds. Shipping Branches are encouraged to send delegates to attend the launch of this report.

A copy of the Cardiff University report will be circulated before the launch event and you will be kept updated on any other developments ahead of this important event.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
